Many people gathered in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on February 27th 2015, to protest against the assassination of the US-Bengali blogger Avijit Roy, who was murdered by unidentified assailants on Thursday evening, February 26th, as he was heading home from a book fair with his wife, Rafida Ahmed Banna, who was severely injured.
Avijit Roy was a bio-engineer and a naturalised US citizen whose writings on religion and atheism had brought him threats from radical Islamists. No-one has been arrested so far, but police say they are investigating a local Islamist group, Ansarullah Bangla Team, that claimed responsibility for the murder.
