Belongings of 289 passengers on Malaysia MH17 crash site, scattered across fields covering an area of 20 sq km.

Most of these photos were taken in July, within hours after the Boeing 777 airliner was shot down over a rebel-held area of Donbass, Ukraine during the Battle in Shakhtarsk Raion. The plane was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. No passenger and no crew member survived after the crash.

Dutch investigators and OSCE officials are now supervising operation of loading fragments and debris onto trains for examination in Kharkiv.

All previous accesses to the crash site were complicated due to concerns about safety and the frequent heavy combats across the region.

Update 24 August 2014

Ukrainian Rebels Parade Prisoners of War

As the Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko was speaking in Kiev of resolve and unity to the soldiers in Maidan (Independence) Square to celebrate the anniversary of the independence from U.S.S.R. , Pro-Russian rebels in the east of the country were staging a countermarch – parading captured vehicles and prisoners of war through the streets of Donetsk, where the crowd dishonoured and shouted at them “fascists, fascist”.
During the last days Donetsk suffered from a more intense bombing that resulted in the killing of  six civilians, including a child.
